Meeting was called to order at 7:01 PM by President Pat Moran, presiding.
Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes of the last meeting were approved as submitted.
Treasurer’s report by Bob Monaco – Current balance $4875.32 – accepted as presented.
Short discussion followed regarding those authorized to vote (re: quorums, etc) as covered by the bylaws. New sign-in form will be utilized in the future, listing each member group’s voting rep; plus other attendees.
Old Business: Southern Regional/Budget : A broad ranging discussion ensued as to the format, approach and contents of a possible “issue ad” to point out discrepancies between the current economic situation and the “realities” of the proposed school budget. Particular focus will be on the continued “over-budgeted” amounts included repeatedly in the budget – with little intent to truly attack costs. It was decided to run a ½ page Sandpaper ad stating the JCTA case. Likewise, a discussion ensued regarding the LBI Consolidated School Budget. In this case the recently negotiated Teachers’ Contract (4% per year for 3 years) will be the target point in light of the current economic climate.
It was moved, seconded and approved to spend up to $800.00 to run 2 half page ads in the Sandpaper stating the JCTA’ position on these two budgets.
Bob Irvine offered to work on establishing a website on behalf of the JCTA at an initial cost of approximately $150.00 annually. It was moved, seconded and approved to proceed in this manner.
Bill Kunz played an excerpt of a recent Southern Regional High Board Meeting at which Dick Jeffries was “attacked” on behalf of the JCTA. Obviously the Bof E does not like their activities criticized.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:40 PM
Charlie Gaver
