Nov 10, 2012 – Update 1

Good Saturday evening HCTA members and friends:

We had a wonderful volunteer turn out today for our first Community Clean-up Day. 57 people (6 with trucks) showed up at town hall to help pick up storm debris around Harvey Cedars. We had good feedback from our volunteers. A truly heartwarming note: when homeowners learned we were volunteers out assisting with clean up, many teams had homeowners spontaneously join their clean up team efforts. A huge thank you to everyone that stepped up to help today. I can personally say that I met some wonderful and caring people today and I hope our paths will cross again. A bonus that we were not aware of: FEMA will steer funds to HC for documented volunteer clean up efforts. Today, we logged 57 volunteers for around 191 man hours to help our town. THANK YOU!

One glitch– The three dumpsters placed thru town and their surrounding areas are SO full of storm debris/trash, that we must hold off our start date for Workday Wednesday. HC will not be able to get the three dumpsters and surrounding areas emptied of this trash by Wednesday and the Borough has asked us to hold off on Workday Wednesdays for a week. We anticipate debris/trash to be placed out at the curb in waves as folks are able to return. There will be an ongoing need to get these items off our streets. If you would like to help out, please respond to this email and we will forward your ctc info to our Workday Wednesday Coordinator: Jim Loudon. Look for pictures of today’s clean up to be posted shortly.

Presently, we are planning another volunteer opportunity next Saturday at noon. Again, we will spend a few hours clearing the streets of HC of trash and storm debris. Unless the Borough deems there to be a more pressing matter.

Trash/Debris pickup info: The Borough is asking all residents to assist with and follow these guidelines.

1.Please place your regular trash and recyclables in cans at the curb as you usually do. HC is trying to stick to their trash removal schedule. Spoiled food items from refrigerators/freezers should be put out with regular trash.

2. Place brush and yard items as the curb as well- same applies.

3. Place white goods (appliances) and furniture/mattresses at the curb. There will be a pick up at some point for these items.

4. Toxic items: Such as paint cans, solvents, propane gas tanks, etc- DO NOT place these items at your curb. At this point, the Borough will not pick them up. Homeowners are responsible for their disposal as always, with the County at their facility in Stafford. Please refer to the County for disposal instructions. The Borough will not pick these items up.

Gas Turn -On: Good News! I posted the information from NJNG this morning on the HCTA website. Please refer to this article on our site for more details. Gas service restoration is starting in Ship Bottom and Surf City tomorrow –Sunday. Read the article at Harveycedarstax.org for more information. We will pass on more gas service info as it becomes available.

Mail delivery: I checked into this and presently there is no change. HC residents may continue to pick up their mail at the Post Office in Tuckerton. As soon as I hear otherwise- I will let you know.
