HC Streets to be Improved in 2014

Four streets in Harvey Cedars that were damaged during Superstorm Sandy will be repaired according to a resolution which the Commissioners adopted last week. The streets are: E 84th Street, E Passaic Ave, Cox Ave and Holly Ave. The repairs will cost less than $36,000 so the Borough is not required to put the repairs out for bid. Borough Clerk Daina Dale said HC received and accepted a quote for $35,000 from All-Surface Asphalt Paving of Point Pleasant.

The road damage is mostly from erosion so “This was not the type of job where we’re resurfacing the street, which is a lot more expensive,” said Dale.

As the repairs are mostly Sandy-related, the borough expects to be refunded the repair costs by FEMA, according to Mayor Jon Oldham. “There is a lot of sediment that is clogging the drains. We expect the work to be done in the spring.”
