Island-Wide Clean Up

The ultimate goal of organizing an island wide clean-up in conjunction with Alliance for a Living Ocean (ALO) is to increase the number of people that are out collecting trash on Sept 9th.  The more volunteers, the more trash that is collected, ultimately benefiting our waterways and streets. Last year the cleanup had a turnout of more than 260 volunteers, most of them connected to a Taxpayer Association on LBI.  If each association gathered just 10 additional volunteers this year, we'd have another 100+ volunteers out cleaning our island.  What a win!!

Clean-ups are fun and great for people of all ages.  We ask each member to bring buckets (ALO strongly prefers the use of buckets versus single-use plastic bags) and gloves.  Tally sheets are used by ALO to collect data on what type of trash is collected and where it was collected.  Look for HCTA prizes for most trash collected, greatest distance covered, most unusual item collected and more!

Stop by check-in at the Public Works yard for coffee and donuts and enjoy some snacks and refreshments upon your return when we will tally our collection and decide on the day’s most unusual find!
