About the event
The Harvey Cedars upweller is one of 12 located on Barnegat Bay, 5 of which are on the island. They are used as part of the educational mission of Reclam the Bay to deliver awareness of the ecology of the bay. The bay is unusual in that it is the final point of the entire Ocean County watershed. The HC upweller in Sunset Park has 40,000 clams and 1,000 oysters in juvenile stage, representative of each upweller. When they are large enough, they will be cast into the bay in protected areas to continue their natural mission to reproduce and to filter the bay water. Each alternate day of the week one of the 5 upwellers on the island is cleaned and clam gardeners are available to answer any questions. The public is encouraged to lend a hand! The Harvey Cedars upweller is maintained at 9:00 AM on Tuesdays.
