BLVD Safety Update

HC Mayor Jonathan Oldham plans to meet again with Ocean County officials on Wednesday, March 2 to discuss the BLVD Safety project reconfiguring Long Beach Blvd from it’s current four lanes to two lanes with a center turning lane and wider shoulders.

Two years ago, the County hired private engineering firm Stantec Consulting to study the traffic flow along the Blvd after the HCTA repeatedly complained about the narrow road shoulders and unsafe conditions for walkers, joggers, bicyclists, etc. The Study shows that reconfiguring the Blvd would dramatically increase safety on the road (please click on ‘Boulevard’ tab on this site to read the Stantec Report) with minimum slow down- even at peak traffic hours.

Last year, Harvey Cedars residents responded to the Boro’s safety survey by an overwhelming majority in favor of the road reconfiguration. The HCTA is now pushing the Mayor and Commissioners to move forward on this safety project with the County and to get the correct information out to the public and our neighboring towns. This will be a process to stop the misinformation put out by other parties. You can help us promote this safety issue by calling our Mayor and Commissioners and Ocean County Freeholder Jack Kelly. Contact information is on our website.
